The cartridges contain a filtration and KDF medium that removes sediments, chlorine, organic compounds, phenol and benzene compounds, pesticides, and heavy metals (arsenic, cadmium, mercury, lead). KDF has bacteriostatic properties (prevents the growth of bacteria in the filtration layer).

KDF works catalytically and is based on the Redox principle of two metals. Water enters the KDF filtration layer, which is made of zinc and copper. In each KDF granule, copper acts as the cathode and zinc as the anode. Essentially, this is an electrolytic cell, where the electrolyte is represented by the flowing water with impurities. Water with dissolved oxygen and impurities passes through the KDF layer, where reactions occur resulting in the formation of zinc and copper compounds. These reactions introduce products into the filtered water that create an environment unfavorable for the growth of bacteria, fungi, and algae.

Water often contains compounds of calcium and magnesium, which can settle as scale. The electrochemical potential of KDF causes modifications of these compounds. In the final stage, the result is a well-soluble carbonate that easily washes away and does not form sediments.
